Staying Safe While Skating
Roller-skating is a safe, healthy sport when safe skating guidelines are followed. One of the most important things to remember is to always skate safely, and these guidelines can be helpful:
- Be aware of other skaters and objects that may be in your path.
- Safety gear is optional when skating inside a rink because risk of injury is reduced due in part to the skating center floor being smooth and well maintained and because safety rules are followed by skaters.
- Look where you are going. This includes when you are skating backwards.
- Don't throw things. The item you throw could hit another skater or land where someone will skate over it and fall.
- Stay aware of your surroundings at all times. This means that you shouldn't talk on a cell phone while skating!
- No disorderly conduct.
- Obey the rink rules, which often include traveling in the same direction as other skaters; figure skating only in the center (or not at all); not making a chain of skaters; not wearing earphones; not carrying children;
- No bad language.
- No chewing gum
- All food and drink is to be kept in the snack bar area.
- No food and beverage items can be brought into the building.
- No ‘In and Out’ privileges, pass outs, or loitering around the premises or car parks. An admission fee will required for re-entry.
